Tips to Stay Refreshed and Hydrated This Summer (Without the Added Sugar)

Barbeques, picnics and trips to the beach may be on your calendar this summer.  How can you enjoy all of the fun while staying within your healthy eating goals?  You can enjoy all aspects of summer gatherings and activities by watching portions, especially for those food carb sources and including regular exercise, taking your medication and consistently monitoring blood sugar levels.

One important tip is to drink water, not sugary beverages.  It’s especially important to stay hydrated; however, summer drinks such as soda, fruit juices, lemonade and sweet tea can be high in sugar and calories.  It is best to drink water or non-caloric beverages such a sugar-free lemonade, non-sugared iced tea and coffee.  For extra flavor, add a wedge of lemon, lime, orange or even a cherry or slice of fresh peach.
