Don’t Fear the Scale!

Do you weigh yourself?

Do you even have a scale?

Carpenter’s use levels with a goal of making sure they don’t end up building a crooked house. Chefs use thermometers with a goal of producing properly cooked food. We have speedometers in our cars to make sure we are going the correct speed. Levels, thermometers, and speedometers are just a few examples of tools we use to stay on target with a task.

If you have a goal weight to achieve or maintain, a scale may be a useful tool to help do it. Studies show that people who weigh themselves are better able to lose or maintain weight than people who don’t. One recent study showed that at follow up, people who weighed daily LOST roughly twice as much as people who only weighted once per month GAINED.

Keep track of your progress. Maybe you will find that the scale isn’t the enemy, but may in fact be a helpful tool for your weight goals.
