In keeping track of your food intake, it helps you become more aware of hidden behavioral tendencies like mindless eating or stress-related eating. So, if you are trying to lose weight and need a starting point keep a food diary and write down all the foods you consume each day. Try to keep it up for at least 1 month to form new healthy eating habits.
