It’s That Time of Year!

Tis the season for BBQ! Yet, as a diabetic this can be a challenge. Food like watermelon, corn on the cob, potato salad, oh my! So, why not trying healthy alternatives that are still yummy and good for the whole family?

Here are some healthy alternatives:

  • Try 1 ¼ cup mixed berries rather than watermelon to add more fiber to your fruit salad
  • Try baked sweet potatoes versus white potatoes. If potato salad is a must, leave the skin on and use low-fat mayonnaise to cut back on the calories.
  • Try grilling seasoned bell peppers, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms with chicken on a kabob rather than burgers.
  • Try grilling seasoned asparagus with olive oil rather than corn
  • Try grilled Portobello mushrooms rather than steak
