We have decided to relaunch a new blog here at DiabetesAmerica.  This blog will tackle all sorts of issues ranging from obesity, nutrition, exercise and other factors involved in maintaining your diabetes.

Our expert physicians, nurses and dietitians will sharing a wealth of information on various topics concerning the management of diabetes. Right now there are more than 220 million people worldwide have diabetes. In the United States, 25.8 million children and adults in the United States—8.3% of the population—have diabetes.

According to WHO(World Health Organization)

  • In 2004, an estimated 3.4 million people died from consequences of high blood sugar.
  • More than 80% of diabetes deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.
  • WHO projects that diabetes deaths will double between 2005 and 2030.
  • Healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight and avoiding tobacco use can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.

There are 1.9 million new cases of diabetes that have been diagnosed in people aged 20 years and older in 2010.

Getting diagnose with diabetes isn’t the end of the world, but it can come with serious complications if not maintained.

Hopefully this blog will be great resource for people with diabetes, their families and friends.
